Sussex Trophy History

The Sussex Trophy Knockouts started in 1970 when the magnificent silver trophy, was presented by Vice Presidents of Lewes RFC, the first winners were Brighton FC (RFU).

During the 70's and 80's, Lewes dominated the Competition and have appeared in 20 finals, winning 12. Their reign was ended by Haywards Heath who won six times running from 1995 and again in 2003.

Worthing , having won 5 times in the 80's, and once in the 90's, also won 5 out of 6 years from 2002.

Over 38 years, only 10 different Clubs have won the Trophy.    Lewes have 12 wins,  Worthing have 11, Haywards Heath 7, Crawley, Horsham and Crowborough have won twice, whilst Brighton, Bognor, Chichester and East Grinstead have one win each.  In 2007, it was decided that that Clubs at level 5, it would  enter their Second XV, to preserve an element of Competition.
