Colts KO Cup - Arrangements following postponements on 5th February
Last weekend turned everything into a nightmare following the ice and snow, but working together we have to find a solution to the problem. I will therefore preface my e-mail with this comment;
Under 17 County Practices and Matches take precedence over Colts Cup and League matches for all members of the County U17 squad on the Structured Season designated weekends for County U17 Rugby. (see attached Structured Season)
To continue: As you are all aware the Quarter Finals of the Colts Cup, due to take place last weekend, was cancelled owing to unplayable pitches. Somewhere within the Youth Structured Season we now have to find time to play those matches if we are not to abandon the Competition altogether. The U17 County allocation of weeks starts this coming weekend and one way or another every weekend between now and the end of the season is filled with either County practices, matches, RFU National Cup (all at U17 Level) or with Sussex Colts League and Cup matches. There is not a spare weekend. It is for this reason, and the probability of more lost games through the continuing bad weather, that the Colts Cup Matches not played last weekend will be played this coming weekend, with the exception of the Pulborough vs. Worthing match which will be played on the 5th March as neither team is involved in the National U17 Competition.
U17 players who may normally be expected to play for the Colts (U18) will not be eligible for selection if they are required for County training.
I am aware that this is not ideal but we must support the U17 County Coaches whilst at the same time having regard to the Structured Season and the needs of our Colts players, and non-County U17 players to enjoy competitive rugby. We have to face up to the reality that, as with Premier Clubs, occasionally some of our better players are not available owing to higher duties and responsibilities. That's life! I am aware that this will not sit comfortably with many Clubs, however, having looked at all of the possible scenarios, this is my decision. I am sure that we can work through this to the benefit of all competitions coming to their conclusion within the due time. If you have any queries, please do not hesitate to contact me.
