Sussex Referee Appointment Changes

Sussex Society of Rugby Football Union Referees

The Society is introducing a new way of appointing referees and assessors for season 2011-12. We have signed up to the 'Who's the Ref' system which will allow clubs to advise of fixtures, request referees and be notified electronically of appointments. At the start of the process telephone contact will inevitably be prevalent but as everyone gets used to the system electronic contact will become the primary form of communication.

In order to make the system work some knowledge is required and this is best explained by answering the following frequently asked questions.

What do I have to do immediately?

You need to log on to www.whostheref.com The email address of the senior and junior contact in each club has already been loaded. Use your email address to log on and you will be prompted to say that you are a new user. Follow the instructions and you will receive a password via email. When you have this PLEASE SELECT AND UPDATE YOUR CLUB DETAILS

Who do I contact to request a referee?

The new Appointments Secretary is David Beglan who will deal with all weekend appointments. Midweek Appointments will be administered by Stewart Goodwin. Contact details are as follows:

Do I have to contact the Appointments Secretary each week?

All league fixtures for Sussex leagues have been loaded onto the system. You do not need to contact the appointments secretaries.

Referees for youth matches on Sundays and all non league fixtures should be requested by contacting the relevant appointments secretary a minimum of 72 hours before a fixture.

The arrangements for Federation Referees appointed to London league fixtures remain unchanged for the time being.

How will I know who the referee is for my club’s fixtures?

The nominated referee contacts at each club have already been loaded onto the system. This contact will receive an email advising of the referee’s name and contact details at least 72 hours before any fixture.

Where else can I obtain contact details for referees?

Contact details are available on the Sussex Society website www.ssrfur.com They are also printed in the Sussex RFU Handbook.

What do I do when I am notified of the name of the referee?

The referee contact must contact the referee to confirm all arrangements

What do I do if the arrangements for the match change?

Contact the referee directly as soon as the arrangements change. Clubs must also advise the appropriate appointments secretary; this can be done by email for information only. The principle contact must be between club and referee directly.

What happens if the referee changes after the original appointment is made?

You will receive an email from the appointments secretary advising you of the change. Clubs must contact the new referee to confirm arrangements.

Where can I see the referee appointments for my club?

You will automatically receive and email advising you of this. However, you can log onto www.whostheref.com using the details provided

Where can I find out more about the appointing process?
