January: Invitations for Assessment

An invitation letter and Google application form will be sent to all Club Chairs, Directors of Rugby and Club Presidents to share with their coaching teams to nominate players to be assessed for the Women’s County Rugby Squad. Eligibility is set by the RFU and players from clubs playing below Championship 1 are eligible to play. If a player is registered at a club that plays in Championship 1 or above, they are not eligible to play county rugby, the eligibility criteria is set on what level the club’s 1st XV plays at not the team the player plays for.


February - March: Trails and Selection

Trials for the Women’s County Squad will take place in February. Selection will be made by 31st March.


March - April: Training

Training takes place in March - April on Tuesday and Thursday evenings.


May: Matches

The Sussex Women’s Squad play in the Gill Burns Competition. They play three matches in May with a Semi Final and a Final Match in June if they progress in the competition. These RFU sponsored matches take place outside of the club rugby season which is sanctioned by RFU regulations
